Happy Holidays, mansion folk.

In addition to being unable to move right now thanks to copious amounts of food (don't worry, Matt, I'm totally prepped for Midnight Mass, I've got like two hours until I have to be mobile), I felt the need to share with you all the fact that I woke up this morning with tickets for a tour of the Hadron Collider taped to my forehead. I know who you are, sneaky person who also taped a note to my face, and I wanted to say thank you because this is epic.

Also, Darcy, why are Doc Foster and I tied? I am totally better at feeding myself without being reminded that she is!

Hope all of you are having a great time, too.

Happy Holidays.

Fascinating.

The Hadron Collider?

Nerd. :P

Date: 2015-12-27 05:35 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-hawkeye.livejournal.com
It's going to be amazing. Do you have any idea how far ahead she had to book these tickets? I mean, the tour is free, but you still have to get tickets cause it's so popular. Dude, this is the best thing, seriously.

Physics is necessary for med school, but I took the bare minimum. So. I'm not really sure what a hadron collider is.

Oh man, you're killing me, Doc. It's the world's largest and most powerful particle collider, the largest, most complex experimental facility ever built, and the largest single machine in the world. Basically, it allows physicists to test the predictions of different theories of particle physics and high-energy physics. In particular, it lets us further test the properties of the Higgs boson and the large family of new particles predicted by supersymmetric theories. Also, loads of other unsolved questions of physics.

Date: 2015-12-27 05:43 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-barrier.livejournal.com
You know what's unsolved? Cancer. And the function of the human appendix.

Point being, I've got plenty of mysteries to contemplate. Practical ones.

Date: 2015-12-27 05:45 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-hawkeye.livejournal.com
Seriously, what the hell are appendixes even for, Doc?

Which cancer though? The problem is that any cure would need to be focused on the particular cancer so an overall cure is impossible.

Interestingly, there's been some recent thoughts on the appendix being a repository for good bacteria - used to reboot the digestive system after things like cholera and the like.

(Apologies for the shop talk - I've been diving into the books again in view of my continued schooling)

You are an adorable nerd. Send me pictures of the Hadron?

Also - Thankyou. You just reminded me I need to speak to Darcy about how to see up one of those lists.

Date: 2015-12-27 10:05 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-hawkeye.livejournal.com
If they let me take pictures, I will totally do that.

Date: 2015-12-27 10:28 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] xp-darcy.livejournal.com
I basically took the idea from those elementary school "good behavior" charts, but with categories that fit the scientists.

Date: 2015-12-29 08:12 am (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-wallflower-.livejournal.com
Hmm. I'm mostly using it for the doctors - including myself. I've been known to forget to eat while studying.

I'll think of something, maybe with magnets.

Date: 2015-12-29 05:40 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] xp-darcy.livejournal.com
Magnets could work. And timers might help remind you to eat.

You're better at fooding, Doc's better at not setting everything on fire in the name of SCIENCE! And you're both equally terrible at regular sleep, soooooooo over time the they sort of... even out.

Date: 2015-12-27 10:05 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-hawkeye.livejournal.com
Aw, Darcy, no. I haven't blown anything up in the lab in months! But yeah, I'll give you the sleep thing.

Also, Laurie wants to make her own chart. Not entirely sure why, but I think she wants your expert opinion on dealing with spacey science people.

Date: 2015-12-27 10:26 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] xp-darcy.livejournal.com
I find that treating all of you like very smart cats helps. Or toddlers.

You don't have to blow up the lab to do damage in the name of SCIENCE!

Date: 2015-12-27 10:39 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] x-hawkeye.livejournal.com
'Damage in the name of SCIENCE!' That's so oblique!

Date: 2015-12-27 10:51 pm (UTC)From: [identity profile] xp-darcy.livejournal.com
Injury to self, possessions, or the lab outside the norm.

The norm is shit like beakers and computers breaking. :P
